The quetzal feeds mainly on fruits, because it is a frugivorous bird and a specialist, since it consumes the fruits of a certain type of plant. It is estimated that this bird only uses as a food resource 10% of all the species that bear fruits suitable for being eaten by birds. if the quetzal is deprived of its fruits, it may become extinct. 

When trying to understand this bird it is easy to understand that its habitat is dense forests and jungles full of life, with a varied fauna and diverse fruits to choose from. Being an omnivorous bird, it takes advantage of all the resources available to it to feed, if the quetzal eats a lot of insects and fruits, the quetzal can have a very long life.

Its diet includes small insects such as ants, larvae, bees, wasps, even frogs and lizards. But it not only limits itself to eating animal proteins, but also takes advantage of the fruits provided by the abundant jungle, it's favorites being the laurel and avocado, if the quetzal lives in forests, the quetzal eats a lot of fruit.
